FAQ

Why can't I see something a colleague created?

Records belong to the account that made them. A record you do not own is indistinguishable from one that does not exist — both give you a 404. This is by design; see Accounts and roles.

Is viewer read-only?

No. A viewer creates, edits and deletes exactly like an admin. The only difference is the Admin section. The name is inherited from the API and is misleading.

Why is the finance module in Dutch when everything else is in English?

Because it implements Dutch bookkeeping — a chart of accounts, BTW codes, and a quarterly VAT return with its own boxes. Translating the terms would put a layer between the app and the return being filed. The glossary gives every term in both languages.

My report totals look too low.

Almost always drafts. Reports count booked documents — Verstuurd or later for invoices, Geboekt or later for expenses. Anything sitting in Concept is excluded, and the page says so. See Reports.

Why don't Budget and Reports agree?

They are not measuring the same thing. Budget is cash — what moved through the bank. Reports is the books — revenue when invoiced, not when paid. An invoice raised and unpaid appears in one and not the other. The gap is the information.

An event or contact is missing.

For calendars, check the sync window first: each account syncs a bounded number of days past and future, and anything outside is not fetched. See Calendar (CalDAV).

For both, check that the collection is actually selected for sync, and look at the last sync time on the account.

Why do contact and event URLs have two ids in them?

Because a DAV item's identity is its collection plus its uid — a uid is only unique within its collection. See Conventions.

The graph shows a connection I never made.

Email address nodes are derived by matching addresses across records, rather than from links you created. It is the one inference Kancil makes. See Knowledge graph.

Can I search inside my notes?

Not from global search. Note bodies are searched from the filter box within Notes. Global Search covers nine other record types.

Is there an API?

Yes — everything the app does. See the API reference. It uses your normal account: a session cookie in a browser, or a bearer token elsewhere.

Can I use my own mail provider?

Yes. Kancil is a mail client, not a mail host. Connect any IMAP account in Email settings.

What happens to deleted records?

Several types are soft-deleted and can be listed again with an include_deleted filter; notes have a trash. Where a hard delete exists it is named as such. Deleting a project takes its tasks with it — archive instead.
