Contacts (CardDAV)

Connect the address books that Contacts reads. The model is explained in CalDAV and CardDAV sync.

Adding an account

Add account takes a label, a server URL and credentials. The label is what you will see against each address book, so name it after the service rather than the protocol — "Fastmail", not "DAV 1".

Choosing address books

Once connected, Kancil lists the available addressbooks on the server and you select which to sync. Nothing you do not select is fetched.

Until at least one is selected, Contacts has nowhere to put a card and says so.

Editing a connection

Edit connection requires re-entering the password. Kancil does not send a stored credential back to the browser, so there is no way to read it out of a form field — and a change is always an explicit re-authentication.

Sync status

Each account shows when it was last synced. A stale timestamp is the first thing to check when a contact you added on your phone has not appeared.

Before you delete

Removing an account stops the sync and removes the synced cards from Kancil. The cards themselves live on the DAV server and are unaffected — but anything Kancil layered on top of them, such as links and tags, refers to records that will no longer be there. Prefer deselecting an address book to deleting the account when you only want to reduce what syncs.
