Messages

Messages is chat with other people on your instance. It is deliberately small: conversations, text, edit and delete. No channels, no threads, no integrations.

Conversations

New starts one with another user on the instance. There is no directory of strangers to search — everyone here already shares your workspace.

Conversations persist and are listed down the side, most recent first. An unread count appears in the top bar wherever you are in the app, so a message does not wait for you to visit this page.

Sending and editing

Messages send on submit. You can edit your own afterwards, or delete them — a deleted message leaves a "message deleted" marker rather than silently vanishing from someone else's history, which is the honest behaviour when the other person may have already read it.

Leave removes you from a conversation.

Messages versus mail

They look adjacent and are not.

Mail is correspondence with the outside world, through your own mail accounts, and it is a record — searchable, attachable, part of the history of a deal.

Messages is internal and ephemeral in spirit: the quick question you would otherwise ask over someone's shoulder. It is not indexed by global Search, and it does not link to records.

If a conversation turns out to matter — a decision, a commitment — the place for it is an activity or a note on the record it concerns. Chat is for talking, not for the record.
