Activities

An activity is a record of something that happened: a call, a meeting, an email you want on file. Tasks are what you intend to do; activities are what you did.

Anatomy

Each activity has a type, a subject, an occurred at timestamp, a body, and the records it involves.

The type comes from your own list — see Activity types. Kancil does not impose a fixed vocabulary, because "what counts as a touchpoint" differs between a consultancy and a repair shop.

Filtering

Three controls:

• When — Today, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, All time.
• Involving — narrow to activities touching one specific record, chosen with the same picker used everywhere else.
• Type — one of your activity types, or all.

The combination that earns its keep is involving this company, all time: the full history with an organisation, in order, regardless of which deal or person it went through.

Where activities appear

Besides this page, activities show up:

• on the dashboard, as recent activity;
• on a record's own timeline, which is the same log scoped to that record.

Logging from a record's timeline pre-fills what it can, so the common case — "note what just happened with this deal" — is a couple of fields.

Activities versus comments and notes

Three things that all look like "some text attached to a record":

• an activity is an event, with a time and a type, that belongs to a history;
• a comment is a remark on one record, in a thread, with no claim to being an event;
• a note is a document that happens to be linkable.
