Email accounts

Connect the mailboxes Mail reads. You can add several; each is configured independently.

Connection

An account needs an IMAP host and credentials for reading. Sending is configured separately, with a from address and a from name — so an account can be read-only, and Kancil will not offer a compose button it cannot honour.

Editing a connection requires re-entering the password. Kancil never sends a stored credential back to the browser, so there is nothing to reveal in a page you leave open.

Folders

After connecting, Kancil lists the available folders and you choose which to sync. Nothing you do not select is fetched.

This matters more here than for calendars: a long-lived mailbox has archive folders measured in gigabytes, most of which you will never open in Kancil. Select the ones you work in.

Filtering

Filter my inbox moves mail that is not whitelisted out of the inbox and into a quarantine folder, according to the rules you define in Mail.

It is off by default, and worth understanding before turning on: it moves messages on the mail server. Other clients — your phone, a webmail — will see them move too. That is the intent, but it is not a Kancil-only view.

The dashboard shows what has been quarantined, bucketed, so filtering does not become a way to lose mail silently.

When sync fails

The last sync time and the last error are shown per account, and failures also surface on the dashboard. An expired password shows up as a sync error here rather than as an empty inbox in Mail.
