Budget categories

The vocabulary and the plan behind Budget. Interface in Dutch.

Categories

Add categories under Categorieën. Each is one of:

• Uitgaven — spending;
• Inkomsten — income;
• Overboeking — transfer.

The transfer kind is the one people skip and then miss. Money moving between your own accounts is neither spending nor income, and without a transfer category it distorts every total it touches.

These are the same categories used by Bank and personal expenses.

Monthly budgets

Maandbudgetten sets a planned amount per category per month. That is the "gepland" side of the planned-versus-actual comparison; without it the Budget page can still show you what you spent, but not whether it was more than you meant to.

Amounts are entered in the local format — the placeholder is 0,00, with a comma.

Automatic rules

Automatische regels classify transactions as they arrive. A rule matches on counterparty or description text, or on an exact IBAN, and assigns a category.

The IBAN match is the precise one: rent to the same account every month, a salary from the same employer. Text matching is for the messier cases — a supermarket that appears under four slightly different names.

Regels nu toepassen — apply rules now — runs them over transactions already in the system. That is what you want after writing a rule: it catches up the history rather than only affecting what arrives next.

Building the rule set

The efficient order is to classify a month by hand in Bank, notice what repeated, and write rules for those. Writing rules first, against transactions you have not seen, mostly produces rules that do not match.
