Notes

Notes are markdown documents organised into notebooks. They are for the writing that does not belong to a single task — meeting minutes, a decision record, something you will read again.

Notebooks

The left column lists notebooks; selecting one lists its notes. There is an Inbox notebook for anything unfiled, and you can create notebooks freely and move notes between them.

The filter box searches within the notebook you are in. Note bodies are not part of global Search — this box is how you find them.

Writing

The editor is markdown, with a rendered preview. Mermaid diagrams are supported in fenced blocks, so an architecture sketch can live in the note rather than as an image someone has to re-draw.

A note starts Untitled; the title is a normal field you fill in when the note turns out to be worth keeping.

Pinning, sharing, trash

Pin holds a note at the top of its notebook — the running note you open ten times a day.

Share exposes a note beyond your own account.

Trash is where deleted notes go. Deleting is reversible until you empty it, which is the right default for a thing whose whole value is that you wrote it down once.

What attaches to a note

Tags, attachments, and links to other records. A note linked to a deal shows up when you are looking at that deal, which is the point of writing it in Kancil rather than in a text file.

Notes versus documents

A document is a file you uploaded — a PDF, a scan. A note is text you wrote. Both attach to records and both are searchable, but a note is editable and a document is evidence.

Kancil — one workspace for contacts, work and money.
