Calendar (CalDAV)

Connect the calendars that Calendar reads. The model is in CalDAV and CardDAV sync.

Adding an account

Add account takes a label, a URL and credentials — and, usefully, Copy from CardDAV, which fills them in from an address-book account you have already set up. CalDAV and CardDAV are normally the same server with the same credentials, so this saves retyping and mistyping.

Choosing calendars

Kancil lists the available calendars and you pick which to sync. This is where you leave out the calendars you do not want in a work tool — a shared household calendar, a subscribed holidays feed.

The sync window

Days past and days future bound what is fetched. Events outside the window are not synced and will not appear in Calendar.

The bound is there because calendars accumulate indefinitely and most of it is never looked at; syncing five years of history makes every sync slower for no benefit. Widen it when you need older events — the next sync fills them in — and narrow it again afterwards if you like.

This is the first thing to check when an event is "missing": it is usually outside the window rather than absent.

Default calendar

Which calendar new events go to when you do not choose. With one calendar connected it is academic; with four it saves a decision every time.

Task sync

Tasks can be published to a calendar as VTODOs, so they appear in a calendar client that supports todos. It is per-account and off by default. See Tasks.
