What is Kancil?
Kancil is a personal and small-business workspace. It holds the things most people keep in five or six separate services — an address book, a calendar, a task list, notes, mail, a light CRM, and a set of books — in one place, on one account, over one database.
The point is not that each of those is better than a dedicated tool. It is that they know about each other. A deal links to the company, the company links to the person, the person is the contact whose calendar invite you are looking at, the invoice that came out of the deal links back to it, and the bank transaction that paid the invoice links to that. Searching once finds all of it.
What it covers
People and work. Contacts and calendars are stored as real CardDAV and CalDAV collections, so your phone and desktop clients sync against them directly rather than through an export. On top of that sit projects, tasks with optional calendar sync, time tracking, notes and documents.
Communication. Mail reads and sends against mail accounts you configure, and Messages covers conversations with other people on the instance.
CRM. Companies, deals moving through pipelines you define, and an activity log typed by the activity types you set up.
Money. Invoices, business and personal expenses, bank transactions, budgets and reports, sitting on an accounting configuration you set once.
The connective tissue. Tags and entity links are what make the above one workspace rather than several. Any record can be linked to any other; the graph view walks those links outward from whatever you are looking at.
Who it is for
One person, or a small team on one instance. Everything is behind a login, and there are exactly two roles — viewer and admin. There is no per-record sharing model, no external client portal, and no multi-tenancy: if someone can sign in, they are working in the same workspace as everyone else.
Finding your way around
The documentation mirrors the app's own navigation, so the label you clicked is the page you want:
| In the app | Documentation | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Home | Your dashboard | What needs my attention today? |
| Contacts | Contacts | Who is this, and how do I sync them? |
| Calendar | Calendar | What is happening, and when? |
| Projects / Tasks | Projects, Tasks | What work is in flight, and what am I supposed to be doing? |
| Notes / Documents | Notes, Documents | Where did I write that down? |
| Mail / Messages | Mail, Messages | What came in, and who said what? |
| Companies / Deals | Companies, Deals | Who are we selling to, and how is it going? |
| Finance | Invoices and the rest of the finance guides | What did we bill, spend and keep? |
| Search | Search | Where is that thing I half remember? |
If you are new, read Accounts and roles, then Your dashboard. Everything else can be read in the order you happen to need it.
