Companies

A company is an organisation you deal with — a client, a supplier, a partner.

The record

Name, industry and website are the built-in fields; everything else is the common layer — tags, custom fields, comments, attachments, activities and links.

Create one from New company; find one with the search box, which matches on name.

The finance panel

A company's page carries a finance summary: what has been invoiced to it, what has been spent with it, and what is still outstanding on both sides.

This is the payoff for keeping invoices and expenses pointed at company records rather than typing a name each time. The panel is not a separate ledger — it is the same finance data, filtered to this organisation.

Companies and contacts

The people at a company are contacts, linked to it. The organisation text field on a contact card is not that link — it is part of the vCard and syncs to your phone. A card can say "Acme BV" and have no connection to the Acme company record.

Link them deliberately, and the company page shows who you know there while the contact page shows where they work.

Companies and deals

A deal points at the company it is with. The company page becomes the answer to "everything about this organisation": the deals, the people, the invoices, the history of activities, and the documents.

That is the whole reason for a company record. A name typed into a field is a string; a company record is somewhere the connections converge.
